This Spring 2026 we will be organising a sheep shearing course aimed at all those who want to learn to carry out this essential process of the wool process. Our main objective is to promote the autonomy of small producers in this process, as well as to provide technical education for the valorisation of wool, increasing the visibility of shearing and the shearer in this process.

Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at adults interested in learning to carry out sheep shearing autonomously, whether for the benefit of their own animals or in other contexts, with a focus on the valorisation of textile fibre and animal welfare. No previous experience in shearing is required.

What does a sheep shearing course consist of?
This is a practical and technical course, dedicated exclusively to the Bowen shearing technique using shearing machines. In addition to the shearing process, fleece skirting, selection and storage will also be covered. Participants must be physically able to handle the animals and shearing equipment.

Equipment
The course fee includes all the equipment necessary to carry it out.

Course duration
This course has a duration of 2 full days (14h of training in total).

Course location
This course will take place at a partner sheep farm in the Marvão area (district of Portalegre).

Accommodation and meals
If you are travelling from outside the region for the course, we can send you some suggestions for local accommodation. Likewise, lunches on training days can be arranged. Accommodation and meal options will be communicated after registration confirmation.

- Shearing equipment: correct use and maintenance
- Preparation of the workspace
- Animal welfare
- The Bowen shearing technique
- Skirting, selection and rolling of the fleece

SABER FAZER is a DGERT-certified for professional training and attendance on this course entitles participants to a certificate of professional training hours.
