Intensive Felting Course

This intensive felting course runs over two days and covers three techniques: wet felting, raw fleece felting and needle felting. It is suitable for beginners as well as those who already practise felting and wish to deepen their technical knowledge.

The practical work centres on creating a “Monstruário”, a collection of monster-inspired pieces through which participants can try different ways of transforming wool into felt. Each piece focuses on one technique and includes exercises in construction, shaping and finishing.

• Wet felting - a pair of horns: constructing hollow forms using resists, incorporating raised details and adding colour. The exercise covers fibre layout, shrinkage and shaping the felt to achieve the intended form.

• Raw fleece felting - a collar: creating a piece that preserves the locks and texture of the fleece. This includes arranging the raw wool, bonding it to a backing of carded wool, felting and finishing.

• Needle felting - the "tootheye": constructing small sculptural forms inspired by the Phorcides, figures from Greek mythology who shared a single eye and a single tooth. The exercise covers building a structure, compacting fibres, shaping volumes, joining elements and adding detail.
  
  

The course is taught by Ana Rita de Arruda, an artist whose work centres on felt and textile sculpture, and includes a complimentary copy of the Introduction to Felting Manual, developed and published by Saber Fazer.

SABER FAZER is a training entity certified by DGERT, and attendance at this complete course (3 modules) entitles you to a certificate of professional training hours.
